Mr. John Irons and the San Diego Kiwanis Club Foundation
On behalf of the University of
California, San Diego, I want to thank you and the San Diego Kiwanis Club
Foundation for sponsoring so many of our undergraduates over the years. As
you know, the six students you have sponsored this year have very high financial
need. Our
previous Chancellor - Robert Dynes, held a meeting several years ago with
scholars and staff. At that meeting Chancellor Dynes said that as an
institution, besides offering excellence in education, UCSD's goal is to
help students grow personally, from young people to adults, and adults who are
less introspective, who look outside themselves, and use their exceptional
intelligence for the broader community.
To help students develop in such a way,
students need to be able to focus and excel in their field of study, participate
in activities that introduce them to people of different backgrounds and
opinions, and help them understand how much they can contribute.
That is why we are so grateful to
the San Diego Kiwanis Foundation. Your very generous scholarships have
allowed our students to gain confidence, live on campus, or reduce the
amount - and stress - associated with loans and debt, so that they feel they can
take part in the total campus experience.
We greatly appreciate your support!
Sincerely Becky Obayashi, Scholarship Coordinator
