We Get Letters...

Mr. John Irons and the San Diego Kiwanis Club Foundation

On behalf of the University of California, San Diego, I want to thank you and the San Diego Kiwanis Club Foundation for sponsoring so many of our undergraduates over the years.  As you know, the six students you have sponsored this year have very high financial need.

Our previous Chancellor - Robert Dynes, held a meeting several years ago with scholars and staff.  At that meeting Chancellor Dynes said that as an institution, besides offering excellence in education, UCSD's goal is  to help students grow personally, from young people to adults, and adults who are less introspective, who look outside themselves, and use their exceptional intelligence for the broader community.

To help students develop in such a way, students need to be able to focus and excel in their field of study, participate in activities that introduce them to people of different backgrounds and opinions, and help them understand how much they can contribute.

That is why we are so grateful  to the San Diego Kiwanis Foundation.  Your very generous scholarships have allowed our  students to gain confidence, live on campus, or reduce the amount - and stress - associated with loans and debt, so that they feel they can take part in the total campus experience.

We greatly appreciate your support!  Sincerely Becky Obayashi, Scholarship Coordinator

May 11, 2008     Dear Kiwanis Club of San Diego

As I am getting ready to finish my undergraduate career, I take a look back and realize all those who have helped me along the way.  I am proud to say that I am graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of San Diego with a degree in Finance.  The Kiwanis Club of San Diego has played a major role in my success over these past few years.

I want to express my appreciation for your contribution to my education.  Without your financial help, I would have not been able to achieve the things, which I have.   College has been one of the best times of my life and I would have not been afforded the opportunity without your generosity.  When I decided to transfer to the University of San Diego from SDSU, your were very supportive in my decision; and for that, I am very grateful.

Again, thank you for your help and your generosity over these past years.  You have made a huge difference in my life by affording me this great opportunity.  I hope to, one day, make an impact on an aspiring college student's life, as you have done with me.

With sincere gratitude,     Noelle Noy, University of San Diego, Class of 2008

Dear Mr. Irons and Kiwanis Club of San Diego     June 21, 2006                                                                      I would like to take this time and thank you all for supporting and helping me reach my dreams, by funding my education.  The luncheon was amazing and I would like to thank you all for giving me the Admiral Bernie H Bieri Award.  It means very much to me.  Your support has helped me get more focused to achieve my dreams of becoming and attorney.  The support that I have been given monetarily is helping my stress levels to be low and as a result I finished my last semester with all "A's", while having 18 units at San Diego State University.  Again I would like to thank all of you for helping to fund my college education and believing in me.  Thanks a million !  Connie Lala
