Notes from the October 25 meeting -
New and improved – now with pictures! – now, back to our regularly scheduled Tidings…
Ryan Callan recited a poetic invocation, and The Tidings lead the Battle Hymn of the Republic, adopted by both sides as an anthem during the Civil War (yes, The Tidings was on Jeopardy…)
Happy/Sad Dollars – Monica was late, and as Corrine pointed out, she lacked a fine free badge, now on sale for $39.95 in the lobby available for bid at the end of each month and active during the next for the entire month
…Mark McDonald, no doubt acting out of an abundance of caution, bid on and won the coveted fine free device for November…many ponied up for lacking Kiwanis pins…Mark chipped in again for way too much golf, the spare Rotarian on the dais, and the 11 he took on one hole
…Kizer saw the 11, and Coley was the snitch…Chuck Day was also late and chipped in for that and the fine International Relief Teams gala he attended (one of our sponsored organizations)
…Ken Coley also attended as did Karina Sousa whose family donated their home in the Azores as an auction item…Tom Bauer happened to notice the Official Retired Naval Supply Corps Officer tie that Kizer was sporting (it’s lovely, really, John)
…Ethel was walking the dog and spotted Ken
…Bill Gibbs is still here!…Monica announced her candidacy for the CCDC advisory committee but everything she said after ‘Victoria’s Secret’ was lost in the ether…Conny contributed for the foster dog she had that was adopted (yay!)…Jay Jeffcoat was fined for not checking in his Rotary Club guest (jeez, how did Rotary get in here so often?)…John Kizer introduced our honoree, Jay Jeffcoat for his 35 year Legion of Honor, with more community involvement that even The Tidings has room to list, and a Rotarian congratulated him (again?)
…thanks Kendra, he wouldn’t have been such a great Kiwanian without you!…Jay of course then went and won the 50/50 drawing, as we lost the deck of cards…Bill Gibbs engaged in his usual bidding war with himself and won the flowers.
Brian Krause introduced our speaker, Joe Tutino, play by play announcer for the LA Galaxy and the San Diego Sockers, who stepped in at the last minute for our originally scheduled speaker John Kentera who was called away for a family emergency. We heard about the birth of sports radio and the slowly increasing popularity of footy in the US.
