    Join your fellow Kiwanians for a joyful morning celebrating community, collaboration, and compassion at the UPLIFT Step Up Preview Brunch — an inspiring event that gathers leaders and partners who share a vision for a stronger, more connected San Diego.

    This uplifting event gives guests an exclusive first look at Step Up San Diego 2026, UPLIFT’s citywide collaborative fundraiser that unites nonprofits, partners, and community members through wellness, service, and shared philanthropy.

    Volunteers will help with:

    • Guest check-in and registration
    • ️ Brunch and beverage service support
    • Silent auction assistance
    • Event flow and guest hospitality

    Why it matters:
    Proceeds from the brunch directly support UPLIFT’s free Tutoring and Housing Stability Programs, helping local students and individuals experiencing homelessness find stability and success.

    Join us for an exclusive opportunity to hear directly from Betsy Brennan, President & CEO of the Downtown San Diego Partnership, at our monthly Kiwanis San Diego meeting at our new downtown location.

    Betsy leads a team of more than 100 staff to advance the economic prosperity and cultural vitality of Downtown San Diego. Under her leadership, the organization provides quality membership services to over 300 stakeholders, conducts successful advocacy, promotes Downtown as a hub for investment and growth, and enhances the safety and cleanliness of 275 city blocks. Since 2018, Betsy has brought her experience from the City of San Diego, community nonprofits, and educational institutions to strengthen the organization’s impact and relevance in the region.

    Betsy earned her Juris Doctor with a specialization in land use from the University of San Diego and serves on multiple boards, including the International Downtown Association. In 2022, she was named CEO of the Year by the San Diego Business Journal.

    During this special session, Betsy will share her leadership journey, insights on urban development and community impact, and her vision for the future of Downtown San Diego. Attendees will leave inspired and equipped with practical ideas to make a difference in their own communities.

    Join us for an exclusive opportunity to hear from Tony Gwynn Jr., beloved San Diego sports figure, broadcaster, and former Major League Baseball player, at our monthly Kiwanis San Diego meeting at our new downtown location.

    Tony, the son of Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn Sr., carved out his own impressive career in professional baseball, playing eight seasons in the MLB with teams including the Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Philadelphia Phillies. Known for his speed, defense, and deep understanding of the game, Tony has seamlessly transitioned from the field to the broadcast booth, where he serves as a radio broadcaster for the San Diego Padres and a respected voice in the baseball community.

    Throughout his career, Tony has carried forward his father’s legacy of excellence, humility, and dedication to the San Diego community. His unique perspective as both a professional athlete and broadcaster offers valuable lessons on perseverance, leadership, and honoring one’s roots.

    During this special session, Tony will share personal stories from his playing days, reflections on his father’s enduring impact, and his vision for the future of baseball and community in San Diego. This is a conversation you won’t want to miss.

    Join us for a special luncheon with Chief Robert Logan, Fire-Rescue Chief for the City of San Diego. Chief Logan will share his vision for the department, discuss public safety priorities, and highlight innovations shaping the future of fire and emergency services in our city.

    About Chief Robert Logan
    A native San Diegan, Chief Logan grew up near Fire Station 12 in Lincoln Park, where his early admiration for first responders inspired a lifelong commitment to service. He began his career as an EMT in 1999 and joined San Diego Fire-Rescue the following year, serving in nearly every rank—including firefighter, captain, and deputy chief—before being appointed the city’s 19th Fire Chief. He holds degrees from Southern New Hampshire University and Columbia Southern University, along with Executive Chief Fire Officer certification. As only the third African American to hold this position in the department’s history, Chief Logan is dedicated to strengthening transparency, equity, and community collaboration across San Diego.
